Breaking up may be hard to do, but getting started might just be harder still. Getting started exercising and making healthy changes can be hard. Getting started on putting new habits in place so you can study, go to work, and still have a life can be hard. And getting a new non-profit organization up and running can be hard to do. All worth the effort, but you may wonder sometimes, "What am I getting myself into?!"
Getting funding is hard. It would be especially hard for me, as a certified introvert. Fortunately, D2BG has an extrovert at the helm, in the form of one George Brickhouse. Coach Brickhouse can walk up to just about anyone and start a conversation. He is oustanding that way. And that's what you need if you are going to talk to lots of people to get the word out and let them know about the amazing opportunity they have to come alongside and help D2BG to be all that it can be.
Getting volunteers on board can be hard. Folks want to help, but often when given a deadline, they can't commit. Time is tight. Money is tight. Other priorities bubble up. Having a dependable core of volunteers is essential to getting an organization like D2BG up and running - and keeping it running. Again, George Brickhouse comes to the rescue. He can schmooze like nobody's business! In a good way. If you can't do it, maybe you know someone who can? How about if I get back to you in a few months? Maybe you'll be free then. How about helping out at our monthly community service events? He's got lots of ways for folks to help up his sleeves.
And getting the word out can be hard. Handing out flyers as kids rush past can be be demoralizing at times. Trying to convince school officials of the value of your program and then getting the flyers in the hands of those who would actually benefit can be a struggle. Checking back is a constant battle. But Coach B is out there, talking and promoting and educating about what D2BG can offer.
All of this may be hard. But doing hard things is what separates those who dare from those who dare to be great. Which are you?

Do You Have What It Takes?
Dare To Be Great is looking to become the premier basketball tournament club on the South Shore of Massachusetts. Under the leadership of George Brickhouse we have a running start! However, that isn't all D2BG wants to be.
We want to be an educational advocate and assistant to our players. By providing tutoring, homework help, and mini seminars on a variety of skills that students can use in their every day school tasks, we are endeavoring to help these young people to achieve their very best academically. With the help of our educational advocate, we are striving to keep our athletes from falling through the cracks and helping them to stay on track in school.
We want to be a supportive community, not just to our players but also to their families. By including the whole family, as well as our community sponsors, we are looking to connect our team to the team in our city. Parents are welcome to drop in on basketball practice, tutoring sessions, homework help appointments, and our mini seminars, as well as coming to cheer on their child at games and tournaments. Anytime an athlete is at a D2BG activity or event, they should feel welcome, supported, and treasured by coaches, tutors, other staff, and their teammates. In turn, players should want to give back to their community as a thank you for the support shown to D2BG.
We want to be a basketball program that others look up to and want to emulate. By providing not only top notch, experienced, committed coaches, D2BG will give our players a leg up on the competition. In addition, nutritional counseling and sports conditioning instruction will be delivered on an on-going basis. With these as their foundation, our athletes will have the best chance to dare to be great on the basketball court and in life.
We are looking for people to join us on this adventure. Do you have what it takes? Can you give what is needed? Will you Dare To Be Great?
